Municipal Bond

« Back to Glossary Index

A bond issued by a city, county or state. “Muni” bonds (as they’re often called) are popular investments with individual investors, because in most cases the interest they pay is not subject to federal income tax. Within the state of issue they’re also not subject to state income tax, so many muni investors opt for homegrown bonds.
