The percentage of a retirement benefit that someone is entitled to each year until they have 100 percent access. A typical vesting schedule gives someone 20 percent access their first year on the job, 40 percent access in year two, 60 percent access in year three, 80 percent access in year four, and finally full vesting, 100 percent access, in year five.
